Designing & making things generally takes time. Making innovative things can take even
longer. Building trust, which can be argued to be related to product development —
since many companies make things for people to buy, often expecting the first purchase experience to lead to conversion of a regular customer — also takes time.
At Sanrixa, we have been busy the last couple of month on several projects
which will hopefully form the basis of our company’s direction over the
next few years. Interestingly, newer and emerging techniques not only in
prototyping / software automation tools, but also manufacturing in general are
reducing this length of time from idea conception, to product launch.
However, that’s not to say challenges are not met. In fact each week
we meet challenges whether software-related or design / hardware-related,
which require one to step back and rethink an approach, or to seek help from a partner who is best placed to deliver the solution. At times this exercise involves simply scrapping the whole project
and starting all over again.
Persistence
This, we believe, is the key to innovation for small companies,
in that a company's technological progress can be argued to be only as good as how often that company is able to bounce back from the challenges or obstacles it meets. When prototyping, it means errors or incorrect specifications should not hold back morale or stymie progress. Instead they should also be viewed as footnotes in the development life cycle; educational & informative. Persistence is key.
Of equal importance as persistence are seasoned advisers, who may have different approaches to particular challenges, or who may identify solutions which the entrepreneurs or
engineers within the company all too often do not see. This is especially relevant when it comes to strategy. Which is why we are
working with a network of partners (details coming soon) in providing a
well-rounded service to our clients! Watch this space…
